“Today I am proud of myself because…”

Good evening all,

I think it is fair to say, we have had some tired campers in our midsts. Action packed activities, 3 times a day for the past 3 days has it’s down sides – mud caked trainers being one of those. However, Eagle class have been determined not to let tiredness get in the way of having fun and challenging themselves to do new things.

Mr K and Mrs C’s group started today with their first kayak training session. Kayak’s were rowed, children were capsized, and everyone had a great time. This was followed by an afternoon of orienteering through the woods. Despite one casualty to the treacherous shoe eating puddles of East Sussex, the group found their way through the wilderness in one piece.

Mr H’s group began with orienteering, and followed this with some excellent climbing. All of the group did brilliantly, with all children completing at least one of the difficult routes up the cliff face. One child in particular learnt a valuable life skill during the climbing session. He faced a difficult section of the wall, and at first shouted “I can’t do this, I don’t know what to do!” However, after taking some deep breaths, relaxing, and focusing on his next step, he overcame his problem and completed the wall with ease. Achieving this made him feel proud – a feeling that all children in Eagle class have found this week.

On that note, I thought I would share Mr K’s answer to our circle time question, “Today I am proud because…” In his own words, he is not a fantastic skier and rarely pushes himself out of his comfort zone. I don’t know about you, but this is what being proud looks like to me:

A skiing Superman! I don’t remember that from any of the movies…

Year 6, I’m so glad to hear that you are all having a great time being brave and trying new things. You have every reason to be proud of yourselves, and when you come back you will have a real sense of achievement. I am definitely looking forward to hearing all about it.

One more day to go – make the most of it!
